You and I know that humor within an organization is not a luxury but a necessity. But you may have to convince some non-believers.  Let them know that in addition to inspiring and motivating your group, Wavelength's humor will add incredible value to your organization.  Recent research suggests humor helps in the following ways:

Building Relationships
"If relationships improve, schools get better."
Michael Fullan, Journal of Staff Development, Winter 2003

Laughing together creates a bond and improves the group's ability to work together.  Humor creates a playful mood which is essential for creative problem solving.

Increasing Productivity
People want to come to work in a place that values humor. Absenteeism declines, attendance improves and productivity soars in work climates (schools and classrooms) that are fun.  Our humor can provide the insights to make school fun again.

Enhancing Learning
Brain research shows that emotion hooks the brain and nothing hooks a learner's brain (child or adult) like humor.  Humor is one of the higher forms of intelligence.  In fact, to "get" a joke, audiences have to use lateral or divergent thinking, both forms of higher order thinking skills.  Thus, people learn when they laugh.

Reducing Stress
Humor puts things in perspective.  Laughter reduces stress hormones.  You can't laugh and be depressed or angry at the same time.  Laughter is indeed the best medicine.

"Humor is the great thing, the saving thing, after all. The minute it crops up, all our hardnesses yield, all our irritations and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place."
— Mark Twain
